Saadiyat: a new home is where the art is
The Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2011 opened the doors of its new home to guests last night in a lavish event. The opening attracted aficionados and connoisseurs from around the world to Saadiyat Island to peruse the 50 galleries spread across the two floors of the UAE Pavilion.

TDIC to award Louvre Abu Dhabi contract by June
Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development and Investment Council (TDIC) has said it will award the main construction contract for its flagship project, The Louvre Abu Dhabi, before the end of June. The master developer originally planned to assign the main contractor for the Saadiyat Island project in June 2010, but has pushed back the contract award date at least three times.
Menasart Fair set to boost region’s thriving art market
Menasart Fair is back this year from July 13 to 16 to present a broad and impressive panorama of artistic creations from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asian region. This high-profile event is set to take place in Beirut, lead by art fair manager Laure d’Hauteville – who created Beirut’s first contemporary art fair, ArtSud in 1998, and organized the two Art Paris-Abu Dhabi fairs in 2007 and 2008.
Culture hubs mushrooming in Arab world
Among the artifacts at the “Splendours of Mesopotamia” exhibit at the Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi is a 5,000-year-old receipt for clothing. The UAE is spending billions to develop its capital into the sort of global center that Mesopotamia’s cities once were. Chief among those projects is the Saadiyat Island cultural district, located on a redeveloped island just 500 meters away from the main Abu Dhabi island.
